The difference between cosmetic and plastic surgery

Plastic surgery is a term usually used for a person getting a procedure that enhances or restores a function or appearance after an injury, some form of trauma, or even a medical condition or birth defect. Cosmetic surgery on the other hand is more about enhancement of appearance and is usually an elective procedure. Brazilian Butt Lifts (AKA BBL), Tummy tucks, Breast augmentations, liposuction, etc. would be considered cosmetic surgery.

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

This is a cosmetic procedure that involves the removal and transfer of fat from your very own body to your butt, hips, and/or thighs. The fat is transferred from usually the abdomen, thighs or arms to give a fuller, rounder, and bigger buttock. It involves liposuction and fat transfer.

Risks of BBL

It is important that when you get this procedure, you get it from a well-known reputable board board-certified surgeon. It is always best to research any surgeon you plan to have any cosmetic procedure done by. This procedure can be risky as fat is being reinserted into the buttocks. The risk could be infection and even death. This procedure has one of the highest risks of complications. More common risks would be bruising, swelling, and pain. It is ALWAYS highly recommended that a registered nurse or company be hired to assist in recovery!

Recovery from a BBL

This is a crucial time for your results. Right after recovery, you will be very groggy and potentially in a lot of pain. You must have proper transportation and a proper place to recover. You are to always lay on your stomach after, and never on your sides or on your back. This will ruin the results if you do. If tired of always lying on your stomach, there are other options. BBL chairs and Mattress Beds are available for rent. Small crackers and juice should be the first thing to try and get in your stomach. Once you arrive at your home, hotel, or Airbnb, you will want to more than likely lay down as well as get some pain medication in your body. The surgeon should have written you a prescription for antibiotics as well. With us, you will get an IV drip that will help with dehydration. You will walk every two hours and have your dressings reinforced. You will eventually get a shower, where we will wash your faja and have it dried before you are out of the shower. The very first day is the hardest but we will be there for you EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. Your recovery will last you 6 months to a year but you should be up and moving around on your own by day 3-7. You will need to have 1 to 2 Lymphatic drainage massages done to help with fluid management, swelling, and shaping of your new royal body.

This is your new body, you must treat it like royalty.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

There are different types of tummy tucks and it is important you know the difference. A mini tummy tuck does not have a need for such a long cut along the bikini line. This is for a woman who only needs a modest change of appearance. It is a procedure that only requires a small amount of excess fat and skin to be removed from the stomach. This is the same as above except this one will have a much longer incision line with some muscle repair. Lastly, an extended tummy tuck will have a fully extended incision from left to right of the abdomen. It will usually include muscle repair which is when the surgeon sutures the abdomen something like a corset to give it a much smoother and flatter appearance. For all of the tummy tuck procedures, they can incorporate liposuction as well.

Abdominoplasty Recovery

For a tummy tuck, you will more than likely wake up with one or two JP suction drains and an abdominal binder. It is important to always check the drains, measure the output of the drains, and empty the drain. What is also important is to make sure the JP drain is squeezed before closing to make sure it can suction and drain. Lymphatic Drainage massages can be done for this procedure as well but may not be necessary until after the drains are removed. Best to consult your surgeon first. Checking for the sutures t be intact and clean as well as dry is important for proper healing. The drain will be removed when the surgeon feels the drainage is less than a certain amount. Faja or abdominal binder will also stay on for 6 months to a year for proper drainage, swelling, and shaping of your Royal Body. It is important to have a registered nurse or company with you for the first day or more. You may need help with just moving your legs if nothing else after this procedure but you will need a lot of help for the first few days. The risks are the same as BBL.

Breast Augmentation

Involves making the breast bigger by fat transfer or implants. This is meant to enhance by making it bigger, fuller, or even rounder. It can also be used for a patient who has had a mastectomy after cancer. Usually, the incision is made under the breasts and the implant would then be placed and shaped. The patient is sutured and then a surgical bra is put on. Sometimes the patient will have drains from this procedure as well.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

When recovering, it is important to empty drains and assess them often. Make sure that you’re not lying on your stomach but always on your back. Most Impresses can return back to work within a week. This procedure is one of the quickest recoveries for getting back to normal daily life.

Mommy Makeover

This is a procedure that make takes a little longer to recover from because in this procedure most women are getting breast augmentations, lifts, or reductions, liposuction, and extended tummy tucks with muscle repair. This requires them to be down for quite some time. This procedure is one that should always have a registered nurse involved. There are so many risks with the procedure afterward just due to many people not understanding the pain, how to get comfortable, redressing the wounds, bathing, using the bathroom and even eating. IV drips are important for all procedures.
